Diving Club

The Aberdeen Sports Village Aquatics Club diving pathway allows children to progress their diving ability further.  All squads are by invitation only and are very specific to age, rate of progression and ability.

Club Ready Level

This level develops the take-offs further and progresses the four dive groups; building skills and experience.  Dry land training in the Studio will be introduced during this level and will concentrate on basic gymnastic moves, strength and flexibility.  Each lesson will therefore consist of 30 minutes in the Studio and 1 hour in the pool.

Entry Criteria:

  • Passed Dive Skills 5

Entry Squad

Divers who have come through the Learn to Dive Programme can be selected to move into the Entry Squad once all Scottish Swimming Awards and additional criteria have been completed.  This squad will concentrate on mastering the skills taught in the lessons to allow technique to be progressed further and new dives learnt.  Dry land training will be an essential part during this level and will concentrate on gymnastic moves, strength, flexibility, as well as the introduction to the dry diving board and somersault progressions.  Athletes in the Club Entry Squad will train 2 hours a week (including 1 pool session and 1 dry session).

Entry Criteria:

  • Passed Pre Club Level
  • Invitation to join the Club by the Aquatics Co-ordinator

Junior Competitor 1 Squad (JC1)

Junior Competitor 1 divers are looking to improve competitive performance by regular attendance at skills level diving competitions all year round.  This squad is looking to develop our best skills divers who are showing good characteristics for diving.  Dryland training will be increased with the emphasis on strength and conditioning, gymnastic based skills and specialist trampoline and dry-dive board sessions.  Athletes in the Club JC1 Squad will train 4 hours a week (including 2 pool sessions and 2 dry sessions).

Entry Criteria:

  • Invitation from the Aquatics Co-ordinator or the Head Coach
  • Divers competing at a National Skills Level

Junior Competitor 2 Squad (JC2)

Junior Competitor 2 divers are working towards good competent diving skills on 1m springboard, 3m spring board and the platforms.  We would expect divers within this squad to perform competently at the National Age Groups and identified club age group competitions within each year.  More complex dives are taught in the pool, as well as further emphasis being place on dryland training.  Each diver’s progress is carefully assessed and places within this squad are constantly reviewed.  Athletes in the Club JC2 Squad will train 6 hours a week (including 2 pool sessions and 2 enhanced dry sessions).

Entry Criteria:

  • Invitation from the Aquatics Co-ordinator or the Head Coach
  • Divers winning medals at National Skills Competitions or competing at National Age Group Level

Junior Performance Squad

Junior Performance divers are working towards more complex diving skills on 1m springboard, 3m spring board and the platforms as well as focussing on good basic technique. We would expect divers within this squad to perform competently at the National Age Groups and final at identified club age group competitions within each year.  More difficult dives are taught in the pool, as well as further emphasis being place on dryland training.  Each diver’s progress is carefully assessed and places within this squad are constantly reviewed.  Athletes in the Club Junior Performance Squad will train 13 hours a week (a mixture of dry and pool training).

Masters

Masters diving comes without all the pressure of hard training sessions or stressful competitions.  Divers who have completed the Learn to Dive programme and are over the age of 16 can compete in Masters Competitions.  Age group dives who wish to reduce their training can also compete in masters competitions once they are over 16 years of age.  Masters diving is great fun with lots of socialising opportunities and usually two main competitions each year.

Dry Dive training is also an optional extra available on a Saturday morning and can be booked via reception for those in the Masters squad, costs £5.75.
